Imagine giving your irresponsible child a credit card, which he quickly maxes out. Then you give him another and another and another.
Then imagine this kid, who has no concept of money, paying the minimum amount due, say $20 on a statement balance of $1,000. The interest on that balance is 21 to 24%, and the kid goes deeper and deeper into debt.
Now imagine the president of the United States and the Democratic members of Congress demanding, yes, demanding, raising the nation’s borrowing limit – with no strings attached.
Cut spending? ARE YOU CRAZY?
Rein in entitlements? YOU’RE FUNNY.
Abide by all the hellish requirements of Obamacare just like your constituents have to? DON’T EVEN GO THERE, PEOPLE.
That one should be igniting a revolution. It is utterly infuriating that we are expected to sign up for Obamacare and pay fees, penalties and higher premiums, depending on our situations, but the Congress refuses to give up its government subsidy to do the same.
”Obama telephoned House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi on Sunday, focusing on the need for any increase in the debt limit without concessions,” the Associated Press reported Monday.
Just to be clear, Nancy, I am Barack Obama, and I want it all with no strings attached. As of Wednesday afternoon, it appears he got it.
These two are a pair, aren’t they? Obama said that once the shutdown ends and the debt ceiling is raised, he’ll discuss spending cuts. Pelosi had said that when Obamacare is passed, then we’ll learn what’s in it. Well, we are now having our rude awekening, and it’s not pretty.
The country is $16.9 TRILLION in debt. That’s how well our representatives in Washington have managed our tax dollars.
Who’s to blame for this? The Tea Party extortionists, of course, if you listen to the Democrats and Obama. How about remembering that the Tea Party is comprised of concerned citizens who’ve been pushed to the edge and are now demanding that the federal government reduce its out-of-control spending. And they’re the enemy?
Yes, they are, chimed in PA Sen. Baahhhb Casey.
“We need to end the Tea Party shutdown and prevent a Tea Party default.” Spoken like the good soldier/sheep that he is.
And if all of this weren’t galling enough, the one thing they have agreed on so far, in addition to making sure they and their staffs were not stuck with Obamacare, is that all federal workers who have been furloughed by the government shutdown will receive back pay.
So don’t feel bad for the hundreds of thousands of federal workers “idled” by the shutdown. They’re on a paid vacation complements of our members of Congress. Let’s see how fast they would have agreed to that if they had to pay those people out of their own pockets.
Obama and the Congress are the biggest bunch of hypocrites ever assembled in one location, and they can’t be trusted with our hard-earned tax dollars.
They pass Obamacare but want no part of it. They spend our money, yes, our money, like drunken sailors. They don’t get going when the going gets tough. They take the easy way out. Just keep raising the debt ceiling. Give furoughed federal workers back pay. Why not, it’s not coming out of their pockets.
Oh, and we’re supposed to be thrilled because both sides were close to agreeing that anyone seeking federal subsidies under Obamacare be subject to stronger income verification measures. Stronger? What are they NOW?
Believe it or not, maybe the cowards in Washington could learn a thing or two from Luzerne County Manager Robert Lawton, who is making the tough decisions to grapple with a $2.77 million budget gap.
“We are severely fiscally challenged, and we will be for some time to come,” Lawton told The Times Leader, explaining why he has called for an 8-percent property tax hike, possible layoffs and concessions from unionized employees.
Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do, except in our nation’s capital, where all they gotta do is raise the ceiling for borrowing more and more and more.
