Getting Into Character
By Betty Roccograndi
Once again a Hollywood actor believes we care about his political views.
First, Brad Pitt said he is re-thinking his opposition to the death penalty in the wake of the BP oil spill. Surely it wasn’t the Obama administration’s initial lame response to the disaster that changed his mind? Whatever. We simply don’t care.
Now actor John Cusack, of “Must Love Dogs” fame, who probably wishes he were in Pitt’s league in Hollywood, is mouthing off. This time, we care even less.
Cusack is on a rampage against Fox News.
He sent out the following tweet: ‘I AM FOR A SATANIC DEATH CULT CENTER AT FOX NEWS HQ AND OUTSIDE THE OFFICES OF DICK ARMEY AND NEWT GINGRICH- and all the GOP WELFARE FREAKS.”
First of all, we’re impressed that he knows who Armey and Gingrich are.
Secondly, What’s a GOP WELFARE FREAK?
Thirdly, is Cusack on drugs?
FoxNews.com reported that Cusack supported Barack Obama for president and contributes to The Huffington Post (a liberal website), “but this is the first known time he has stooped to the level of threats.”
Seeking comment, a Fox affiliate contacted Cooper Lawrence, who wrote “Cult of Celebrity.” He said, “John Cusak has to know that his words carry weight because he is an actor beloved by many generations of folks who may not get his humor and might think he is calling for something more sinister.”
What’s with this guy? Calling for a satanic death cult constitutes humor? John Cusak is beloved by many generations?
Beverly Hills psychiatrist Carole Lieberman said that maybe Cusak’s “provocative tweets could easily incite a rabid fan to commit violent acts against Fox News Headquarters and others he names.” Like Dick Armey, for instance.
Cusak doesn’t say in his threatening tweet what Dick did to incur his wrath. Is Armey even in the news anymore? One would think that Cusak would join the pack and target his frustration at Sarah Palin like his comrades in the liberal news media do so often.
Image consultant Michael Sands made the most sense. He told Fox, “I think his fans will not appreciate his tone. John Cusak is taking his fame too seriously. He is having delusions, and his anger towards Fox News may get him arrested.” Good for Mr. Sands.
Interestingly, Cusak recently signed on to play the dark poet Edgar Allen Poe in “The Raven,” a movie about a serial killer who uses Poe’s stories to inspire his killing sprees.
Oh, now we get it. This egomaniac is channeling the eerie Poe to get into character and using Twitter to drum up excitement for his upcoming film. But we still have to ask, is it okay to threaten a major news network, a former House Majority Leader and a former House Speaker?
Cusak recently told his fans via Twitter, “Officiali – will play Edgar Allen Poe in fall-a film called The Raven, send any Poe-gold-my way as I begin this journey into the abyss.”
At least Cusak admitted he’s journeying into the abyss.
As for Poe-gold, we’re embarrassed to admit that we don’t know what that it, but we’ll play along. Here’s our Poe-gold:
Quoth John Cusak nevermore.
